    Hi Suzzane!

Just wanted to leave my two cents about “cheat meals” since I have been keto for so long and am in somewhat of a maintenance phase (although ever evolving like you have also mentioned). The most amazing thing about keto is that I now know when I am indulging. Is it ok to indulge every once in a while? I think so. Before keto, I thought that I was only indulging every once in a while, but I was not losing the weight. That was because I actually WAS indulging, I just had no idea. For example, a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread, low fat mayo, etc. To most of society, that is not an indulgence. But for a keto-er, thats definitely an indulgence. So, keto has given me the knowledge to correctly “rate” how indulgent my meals are or are not. I save my indulgences for when its really worth it to me and I keep them in check!

I also hate the phrase “cheat meal”. Its not a cheat, its an indulgence and anyone who is sane will have one every once in a while 🙂

Thank you so much, Alex! I totally agree with what you said. I’ve changed majorly and I know my idea of an indulgence will be way different than what you would typically think of. I also don’t plan to have them often, and I have some foods that are completely off limits forever…like regular soda. There are some things that I will never eat or drink again.

Good to hear your back is much better : You were missed last week.

I am in the early part of my journey with Keto/LCHF Lifestyle but I have often wondered what happens when I reach goal. I have read you just increase the carbs 5grms at a time and see how that goes on the scale. For me just to include fruit in my diet would be great. Being summer here in Australia all the stone fruit are in season and the aroma as you walk into the fruit and Vegetable isle is intoxicating 🙂

I hear what you are saying about cheat meals, sugar, etc.
For me I know I am an addicted to sugar/carbs and it would be a
slippery slope. I have lost 50 pounds as of this morning.
I am 54 years old and have lost 40-60 pounds 3 other times
over my lifetime. All 3 times I have started adding a few things and before
I knew it the addiction took over. Just like alcohol to an alcoholic to me.
Just proceed with caution! You have done such a great job and come so far!
    😀

I totally agree with you! I’m going to be very careful and I don’t plan on having non low carb food often…I won’t be having planned cheat days or meals and will likely only have something non low carb less than 5 times a year. I love keto and don’t really feel the need to stray often.

Hi Suzzane, I just found you today (Pinterest) and I am a total newbie and am on day 3. I haven’t really ever successfully dieted but this seems like something I can do. You have given me so much great info and I will be watching the rest of your videos on You Tube and I have subscribed so wish me luck! Thank you for the great info.

    Hi Suzanne!
So happy to hear your back is on the mend! It is scary when our bodies don’t cooperate like we’d like or expect them too but thank goodness for doctors who help us!!

On the subject of Keto 100% /special occasion of eating higher carb foods (I also do not the “cheat meal” label). Although I’m new to Keto, I’m not new to dieting/ups & downs of obesity. Although it can be a slippery slope Donna mentioned above, I think to make a choice or to plan to eat a higher carb food on a special occasion is totally OK and even wise. I don’t like to be absolute or black & white with life…it’s just not realistic. As long as you are devoted to the lifestyle because you feel so much better living Keto 95% of the time, it’s more than ok to have a 5% time to have a fun indulgence–and enjoy it thoroughly!! General ‘Keto consistency’ is the key here–which would be reflected in a 95/5 % lifestyle of enjoying a little gray with your black & white;-)!!

Thank you SO SO much for the information you share so freely and honestly here. It has helped me and I’m sure MANY more than you could ever know. You are such an inspiration, Suzanne!!

Thank you so much, Kelly! I totally agree with you. After all this is a lifestyle change, not a punishment! Luckily I love keto, so it’s no problem to stay on track 95% of the time. Thank you so much for your support!
