Keto Butter Chicken

If you’ve never had keto butter chicken before then you are in for a treat! Butter Chicken is a mildly spiced Indian curry dish that is easy to make and packed full of flavor. This keto butter chicken doesn’t disappoint.

You can have dinner on the table in just 30 minutes with this quick and easy recipe. Start by melting butter in a large skillet. Add onions and saute until they are lightly golden, about 3-4 minutes. Next, add ginger and garlic, then cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Stir the tomato paste in to the onion mixture.

Now, add the chicken to the hot pan. Sprinkle with garam masala, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5-6 minutes, tossing periodically in order to brown all sides of the chicken.

Slowly add the heavy cream and stir to incorporate all of the ingredients. Simmer on low for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened. I love to serve keto butter chicken over top of sautéed cauliflower rice and garnish it with cilantro for a fresh, bright flavor.

Another great thing about this dish is that it reheats really well as leftovers. Like chili, Butter Chicken is sometimes even better the second day! You can store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. (Sidenote: it never lasts that long in our house!)

    This was delicious! My 5 year old loved it and gave it 2 thumbs up, and even my husband (who thinks he doesn’t like indian food) said it was really good. I even got a spoon to scrape up all the leftover sauce. I will absolutely be making this again!

    Can you make it without the garam masala? I don’t know what it is!

      Hi Alicia, garam masala is the main flavor in this dish so it really wouldn’t be butter chicken without it. You can find it in the spice aisle in most grocery stores.

    I made this last night. It was spicy which was a surprise as I usually think of butter chicken as a mild dish but I love spicy and it was fantastic. I added some fresh spinach at the end and otherwise the sauce color and consistency looked just like your photo. I’ll definitely be adding this to my regular dishes. Thank you, Suzanne!
