Why You’ll Love This Low Carb Hot Chocolate

  • You just need four easy ingredients!
  • It’s low carb and perfect for the keto diet.
  • You can stay warm inside your house and make your own homemade hot cocoa and not have to get out in the cold winter weather to run to the store.

Ingredients

  • Almond milk
  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Swerve sweetener
  • Cocoa powder

How To Make Keto Hot Chocolate

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine all the ingredients.

Whisk well for 2 to 3 minutes or until the desired temperature is reached.

Optional: Serve topped with whipped cream and a light dusting of cocoa powder.

Pro Tip: If you want to make your keto hot chocolate recipe sweeter, add in more Swerve!

Variations

Whipped Cream: If you want a little bit more sweetness, top with whipped cream!

Add more cocoa powder: Even though there is cocoa powder in the keto hot cocoa, an extra dusting on top is excellent!

How to Store

This hot chocolate made with almond milk doesn’t make a huge batch, but if you need to store it for later, just put it in the fridge.

How to Reheat

When the time comes to enjoy your cup of hot cocoa, pop it in the microwave and reheat it until it’s hot. Be sure to give it a stir before taking your first sip!

Toppings Suggestions for Almond Milk Hot Chocolate

Anything that you put on top needs to be keto-friendly so keep that in mind! I’m all about trying new toppings, so have fun and let me know if you find anything good.

Some topping suggestions:

  • Sugar free dark chocolate chips
  • Sugar free chocolate sauce

Change it up with each cup. It’s so warm and delicious that topping can make each cup of keto-friendly hot chocolate taste totally unique.

If you whisk it, it ends up with a nice froth on top kind of like whipped cream. I added about 1.5T of cocoa to make it a little more chocolatey.

I use Macadamia Nut milk (very yummy & Costco carries it) as I am not a fan of almond milk. I also add a splash of vanilla. It is my go to drink every morning as I am not a coffee drinker. I microwave the milk & heavy cream first then whisk in the cocoa, sweetener & vanilla and then microwave a bit longer. Yum!
